Meet a Mom- Brittany Maughan!

Dean Steinman | 08 Nov 2022

For our latest Meet a Mom, we spoke with Brittany Maughan, the new Head Consultant for Northern Westchester at WhizKidz Tutoring.  This mom of two has a background in education and has been a tutor at WhizKidz – the Westchester based tutoring company founded by her sister.  Brittany recently moved into her new role as Head Consultant, Northern Westchester, where she manages all Northern Westchester clients and tutors for WhizKidz.  We spoke to Brittany about a wide range of topics from family and life in Northern Westchester, to her new role and working in the family business.

How many kids do you have and what are their ages?

I have two daughters, Sienna age 7 and Lily age 4.

What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

My secret talents are tap dancing and water skiing!

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?

My family has been a huge support to me throughout parenting- listening, giving advice and helping to babysit the kids regularly so I can get some much needed “me time.” I am also extremely grateful for the Mom Tribe I have developed over the past 7 years. It is so important to surround yourself with people who will lift you up, make you laugh, and empathize with all the successes AND mistakes (which you are bound to make) in this ever-changing journey that is parenthood.  And of course, my husband, who has been a supportive partner and is a very hands-on dad.

What are your favorite things to do with your kids?

I love to go on adventures with the girls and see them try new things and overcome fears. Both girls enjoy hiking, skiing, swimming, and climbing trees. We love spending time in town, going out to dinner and having backyard get-togethers with local friends. But, we also appreciate the special moments of downtime with family at home – doing projects and having dance parties in the kitchen, playing games, and having movie nights.

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!

I recently took on a new role as Head Consultant, Northern Westchester for WhizKidz Tutoring.  My background is a perfect fit for this new venture.  I taught as a classroom teacher for students with special needs for ten years before becoming a mom. When I had my daughter Sienna, I decided to stay home with her and became a tutor for WhizKidz. Fun fact, my sister, Erica Maltz, is the CEO of WhizKidz Tutoring!

WhizKidz has been steadily growing and expanding and needed a manager for their Northern Westchester clients and tutors. Erica recognized my skills as both an educator and a manager (and my friends can attest – I am the planner of the group!) and proposed me take on a larger role with the company. I have been watching the company grow throughout the years, seeing first-hand how the vast variety of tutoring services the company offers benefits children and families. WhizKidz offers tutoring services to kids of all ages, from pre-school thru college, in every content area.  We also offer Executive Function Coaching, Speech Services, Handwriting/Fine Motor tutors, College Counseling, SAT/ACT/ISEE test prep, and so much more!

I am so excited to continue to work with my sister in a new capacity and help to expand the benefits of WhizKidz to our neighborhood and surrounding towns.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

Living in Pleasantville has been such a great experience for me and my family. It is a special village and a true community.  Neighbors will drop off soup when you’re sick, offer carpools and playdates when you’re stressed, bring your packages in for you when you’re on vacation – it’s part of the Pleasantville way of life. Even during the Pandemic, I never felt alone here – there was always a smiling face walking by on the sidewalk or someone hosting a socially distanced firepit in their backyard in the middle of winter to lift you up.  Being part of this community has helped me to grow as a person, and a mom, and has given me the support and confidence I need to pursue whatever new adventures come my way.
